Context

For many motorcycle taxi drivers and small shop owners, buying a motorbike or smartphone outright is impossible. Bee offers to finance it: the user gets the item immediately, then repays it through small daily payments (for example, FCFA 3,500 per day for a motorbike worth FCFA 800,000).

My approach

  • A short onboarding flow, with the conditions shown from the outset (age, ID, guarantor, driving experience) to avoid late rejections.
  • A progress bar as the main reference point: days paid, days left, amount repaid.
  • A strong yellow-and-black identity that inspires trust and is recognisable on the street.
  • Three coherent products: the user app, a dedicated app for KYC agents and a Super Admin back office.

Challenge

  • Make credit understandable for users unfamiliar with financial services.
  • Show at all times where repayments stand, without jargon.
  • Verify identity (KYC) and eligibility without discouraging the user.
  • Manage multiple financed items and multiple accounts in the same app.

Solution

  • Log in with PIN code, sign-up and guest mode.
  • Dashboard: wallet balance, active subscriptions, new subscription (motorbike or phone).
  • Guided sign-up, then tracking: « under review », then active subscription with its progress.
  • Bee Wallet to add money and pay, with clear confirmation.
  • Transaction history, KYC, help and support via WhatsApp.

What I take away from it

For a financial product aimed at an underbanked audience, clarity matters more than features: a well-placed progress bar answers the question everyone asks (« how much do I have left? »).
